Surgery days in SD

I am sitting here in the lounge at the Ronald Mac Donald House. Christopher just had his second surgery yesterday and I am waiting for Eddie to wake up so we can go get a latte and see our sweetie pie. It is 9am and I have NEVER known him to sleep this late. Of course I am the night owl and woke up at 7am unable to go back to sleep. Figures.

So the breakfast buffet that I am looking at has, a bowl of Crunch bars, a basket of individual wrapped chips, chocolate donuts AND chocolate cake, super dry cinnamon rolls, brown bananas, a soupy fruit salad that looks like it may have been good several hours ago, and two containers of cereal. Hmmmm, I'll take a bag of Fritos.

This place is actually really nice and we are so thankful to be able to stay right across from where Christopher is being cared for. I really need to learn to wear my camera like clothing, pictures make the moments so much more fun to remember. But alas it is in the room with Eddie.

Yesterday was interesting. Eddie and I were both completely exhausted from our week and from having to get up at 4am to feed Christopher his last bottle before surgery. I was especially grumpy and he was particularly quiet as we tried to get out of the house on time to drive to SD. He does much better controlling his tongue than me when tired though he was quick to shape me up ;) While we drove down to San Diego to check in for surgery we debated on who should drive and could overcome there sleepiness more. When we arrived in the parking lot I received a phone call from my mom, who was on hour away at the house taking care of the older boys, and she asked, "Where are the car keys?" UGH!!! Yep, that's right they were in the diaper bag right by my side. I couldn't even tell her. I just said I would call back. This could not be happening. We were practically too tired to drive down how could we possibly go back. After several phone calls and an unsuccessful attempt to guide my mother in opening the safe we realized one of us would have to go back.

Once we handed Christopher off the the surgical nurse we had about 2 hours before he was out. We sat in the waiting room, which had a sign that read "One parent must be in waiting room at all times" and another "There is no eating or drinking in this area", and laughed at our dilema. At this point we were delirious from exhaustion. He didn't want to drive and I didn't want to leave. "Take your pick," I said, "Two hours of being stuck in the waiting room, denied of all sustenance, or on the road with a diet coke and a bag of sunflowers seeds to keep you awake?" Haha! We agreed it was best for him to do the later. Poor guy had to drive all the way back home and then back again. We got a GOOD laugh out of it all. He didn't get back until after Christopher was out of recovery and in his room.

So now he continues to sleep as I enjoy the sweet memories of another part of our adventure we travel together.
